It comes with left and right controllers called "Joy-Con" that slide on and off the main body of the console, along with a pair of wrist straps to stop them flying off your hands and into the window.

It also has a Joy-Con grip which turns the mini controls into one big controller , the Nintendo Switch dock, and the cables you'll need to set it up as a TV console an HDMI cable and the charging plug.

In the box, you get everything you need to hook it up to your telly. There's also a built-in kickstand if you want to prop it up on a tabletop.

For on-the-go gaming, you'll be relying on the battery, which can vary a bit depending on what you're playing. Nintendo estimates five-and-a-half hours for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild , for example, whereas a game with less visual demand will use less juice. The left and right Joy-Con controllers can also be detached and used independently for certain games like Mario Party and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe , so two or more people can duke it out against each other.

You can also do this on the Switch Lite, connecting your Joy-Cons to the main console to play with buddies, but it's cumbersome. If you want to play with more than two players, you'll need to pick up some new controllers.

We've rounded up some of the best Nintendo Switch accessories here. Nintendo has never really responded to the swirling rumours that they would be developing an upgraded version of the Switch, even as the Switch Lite answered budget-friendly questions. At least, until recently. It also comes with crisper audio thanks to new onboard speakers and an improved kickstand. The other big difference is that it comes in an off-white colour in addition to the neon red and blue number you normally get, as well as double the storage capacity to keep hold of your games.

All of these improvements make the OLED Model a clear upgrade over the original Nintendo Switch if you play in handheld or tabletop modes.

Some fans were disappointed that there won't be anything more from Nintendo in terms of hardware, like a 4K display or something similar, but frankly, we never feel like we need incredible graphics on the device. Digital Spy gave our verdict on the Nintendo Switch, back when it first launched in Pop in Battlefield 5 on your PlayStation, and you have a match of 40 or more players with explosives, bullets, and debris flying around during a generally smooth experience. One could make an argument for the challenges of voice chat on the Switch, that it is a better way to protect children online, but we cannot play a round of Smash Bros.

Once again, Smash Bros. If only their systems, services, and online functions ran as smoothly as Sony and Microsoft, all would be resolved. If Nintendo games were made on PlayStation consoles, in some ways, they would be much better. It is tough to think Nintendo would be better off getting out of console production after the success of the Switch, but it is something to think about.

The reason you can't access all of its buttons at any time is because you shouldn't have to. The N64 was Nintendo's first 3D gaming system, and as such they were reluctant to completely abandon the controller layouts that had defined their incredibly successful NES and SNES systems.

So as a compromise, they sought to create a controller that could serve multiple functions. If the analogue stick is ignored, players can comfortably hold the N64 controller in pretty much the same manner they held an SNES pad: d-pad on the left, face buttons on the right, and a pair of shoulder buttons to round things out. The fact that it now had ergonomic grips made it arguably even more comfortable to handle than its predecessors.

But more importantly, it allowed players to enjoy traditional platforming games in the style to which they had grown accustomed. However, if the player was trying out a new-fangled 3D game that permitted a full degrees of movement, the left half of the controller could be just as easily ignored.
