Why question authority
Einstein could not have improved his unification theory of everything if he was not questioned, if the mother was not questioned then she and the son will not do whats best on these situations, by questioning authority we enable debate and we enable a rational insight into the best conclusion. By not questioing and doubting mainstream views we never get a chance to reflect on whether these veiws are the best or not and , if we do not question we end up staying in the same place.
By questioing we do not bring bad effects, what are the cons of curious questioning? Conclusion: We should questioin authority on almost every issue. Authorities can be corrupt. They can be racist and can kill inocent people. Take Hitler as an example. There is a reason we have debates before elections for president.
Their reasons will appeal to us and if we made a mistake we can bring him down. How can we bring him down? Authority is authority. On the other hand, what happens when children just do what they are told without telling us what they think? They get practice complying with orders that they may not understand.
That seems dangerous to me. Seems pretty simple and straightforward to me. But it seems like you might have a different perspective on this. Did you talk to him when you made that decision? Why is it important that he unloads the dishwasher? Does he know your reasons? I would want to start by asking if he agreed with my premise that members of a family are a team, and therefore that it is only fair that each member should contribute to the team.
Most kids agree with that. Then, I would want to consider what has to happen for the family to function, and what opportunities there are for each to contribute. Maybe the son has other good ideas about how he can contribute. Maureen: To be honest, Al, this sounds exhausting. I would be tired all of the time if I let my kids question everything! Al: I understand the need to establish some guidelines for when and how those conversations happen. Now is not the time for us to talk about this, but I will be very interested to know your views when we can talk this evening.
You lied to us! And further disillusionment lay in store. When news reports of the protests started coming in, students discovered that they were being accused of attacking the police and starting a riot.
Now they had one more reason to question what they had believed about people in positions of authority. Growing Cynicism The questions came for the soldiers as well, starting from the moment they learned how the October 17 fight with the Viet Cong would be portrayed. Michael Arias, who had been lucky enough to escape without a scratch, was told by his superiors not to call what happened an ambush when interviewed by CBS News.
That denial of what the soldiers knew to be true went right up the chain of command; when the commander of American troops in Vietnam, General William Westmoreland, visited wounded soldiers in the hospital, he refused to use the word. And now the grunts too had reason to question authority. I'm not a cynic, but I started to become one.
