Should i crop my pitbulls ears
It gets done to young puppies and that does affect thier personalities. Any one who says it doesnt has no clue. They have memories and I know for a fact they do remember. A friend of mine had one with cropped ears. Well his piitbull did a nip at someone who touched its ears. This dog was a 3 year old age. Then another time it nipped another person , and one final person got bit, by this dog , because the idiot went to whisper into the dogs ear while holding its ear. So any one who thinks cropping is normal or good to do , well pray I dont meet you.
From a true animal lover and knowledge. Dogs should be beautiful because they are loved and well cared for. After reading this article how could you even consider it? Hope this helps! I have american pitbull i want crop his ears. But before that i wanna make sure that it will not affects my dogs health. Or it dsnt cause any disease. I am fostering an American Bully right now who was a stray on the streets for what seems like a long time if not all his life. He is not good with other dogs- startled at his own shadow or reflection- but is a friggin total loverbean with humans.
He is so damn mellow and sweet! When I put the meds in his ears every night, he cries- and I have cried with him. I have video-d this because I want to share how fucked up this practice is.
I love animals- especially dogs. Why would anyone want to impart this practice on a boy? I think he is cool looking with cut ears but not so much that I would ever want to chance a probable life sentence of chronic infections. Fuck that. Thanks for the info, just wandering why people do this?
Not all veterinarians do a good job. You may go in for a Battle Crop and end up with a Short Crop. During the puppy stage, the cartilage and muscles in the ear are not fully developed. During the procedure, your vet will anesthetizes the puppy. Then he will mark the ear and trim off the excess ear tissue. He will then close it with sutures. The problem is that ear cropping amounts to nothing more than forced mutilation so that poorly informed owners can make their dog what they deem to be prettier or fiercer.
They often argue that floppy, natural ears should be chopped off because they're prone to infection. But that's not true. In fact, research shows that ear shape has little effect on the risk of a dog getting an infection. At least 80 percent of dogs never contract one at all.
The ones who do get the most infections are poodles and spaniels, breeds whose ears typically aren't cropped anyway. Puppies usually endure ear cropping as young as 6 to 12 weeks old. Life-Long Trauma — It can be a traumatic experience for many dogs to go through such pain for weeks.
Just like humans, animals, process trauma in different ways. Because of this traumatic experience, your Pitbull can become more aggressive or reclusive. The ear remains prone to infection because it takes weeks and sometimes even months for the ear to totally heal.
Sensitivity — Pitbulls in particular have many nerve endings in their cartilage. These nerve endings become even more sensitive when the ears are cropped. The puppy is kept on painkillers for days and this procedure is so painful that even slight touch or bump could trigger pain to their nerve endings. What is even worse, is that the sensitivity may never heal in many puppies causing them to live in continuous pain and discomfort throughout their lives.
This is because it was a sign of a dog that had trained for fighting. Dogs Use Their Tails and Ears to Communicate — Dogs need to use their ears to communicate with their owners as well as other dogs. For example, when they are becoming alert or edgy, dogs move their ears slightly forward. Also, letting their ears down is a sign of acceptance and submission. Ear cropping robs them of their full ability to communicate.
The ear cropping surgery is also known as cosmetic otoplasty. It is an almost 30 to minute surgery that requires full anesthesia along with a recovery process of a few weeks. The ears are sutured and bandaged at the edges after surgery. The ears are then taped to make them appear more upright. Because Pitbulls have a lot of nerve endings in their ears, they become very sensitive to the touch after surgery. It is alarming that veterinary schools do not teach this procedure, forcing vets to learn about this on the job, before it can be performed.
This only increases the risks associated with carrying out this surgery. Ear cropping should always be performed with full anesthesia and must be done by a licensed veterinarian that has experience with this procedure. The pinnas are cut to a certain length, and after the surgery, bandages are wrapped around the ears. This can last for days or months, depending on how fast healing occurs.
Medicines are given to assist with the reduction of soreness and prevention of infection. When the procedure is done, your vet may need to keep your dog overnight, but in some cases, you may be able to take them home the same day. They also usually give you pain medication for your Pitbull.
Ensure that you ask because some of them might forget. The Battle Crop — This type of crop allows the ear to sit very close to the head and is the shortest of the styles.
